The company started in 1992 as Woolcell Australia Pty Ltd to explore commercial opportunities in wool based insulation products. The company received its first National Award in 1994 from the Australian Wool Corporation/ Inventors Association of Victoria for a patented blend of waste and wool. Between 1997 and 2005 the company received several awards and certifications as well as recognition and financial assistance from various State and Federal Government Agencies in Australia whilst pursuing both research and development and commercial launch of its products in Australia.
In 2006, the company began exploring products that used only waste and in the ensuing years successfully developed innovative batts and blankets which were short-listed for the prestigious Western Australian Inventor of the Year Awards and a new company Envirobatt Pty Ltd was launched. The sad demise of the company's key driver and technology inventor saw the company go through a period of hiatus whilst the management tried to seek assistance with business direction and structure. In August 2010, Woolcell and Envirobatt entities were merged into a new ownership structure, and the company intends to set-up the largest production facility for such a product anywhere in the world and pursue full scale commercial activities for its suite of intellectual property.
